Things I've learned you might like too!

I've been doing alot of reading the last couple of years, in particular business reading.  (ok the last one isn't a business book!)  Just because it's business reading doesn't mean it has to be boring, I'm not into boring!  Here are some suggestions from my own personal library, stuff I found interesting or important, or had meaning to me and what I do.

The first book I picked up that kicked me in the butt and got me excited about growing my business was this book...
Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable, by Seth Godin.
He has additional books I have read as well.  They are all good, I like his style of writing.  You can find out more about Seth Godin at his website, www.sethgodin.com.

Some of you may now know that I was in the Military, the Marines to be exact.  I liked this next book not just because it is written by a servicemember, but for the ideas that challenged the "traditional" roles of how the military worked, as well as lessons in leadership that can be applied in life as well as business.
This book is...It's Your Ship: Management Techniques from The Best Damn Ship in the Navy, by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, former Commander USS Benfold

One quote from the above book that I like is, "As a manager, the one signal you need to steadily send to your people is how important they are to you.  Realize your influence, use it wisely.  Be there for your people.  Find out who they are.  Recognize the effects you have on them and how you can make them grow taller."

Two more books that I really liked in my quest to learn about myself and how to improve my business...
The Radical Leap: A personal lesson in extreme leadership
The Radical Edge: Stoke your business, amp your life, and change the world
Both books are by Steve Farber,
www.stevefarber.com

There were so many things  I liked in both of these books it would be hard to list them all.
Cultivate Love, Generate Energy, Inspire Audacity, and Provide Proof.
Find out what the real meaning of an Oh Shit Moment is, or as it's written in the book an OS!M (It's a good thing, trust me on this one)

"I challenge you to live up to this ideal:  Do what you love in the service of people who love what you do."
There are three parts: 'Do what you love.'  Make sure your heart's in your work, and that you're bringing yourself fully and gratefully into everything you do.  If you're not connected to your own work, you can't expect to inspire others in theirs.  'In the service of people' will keep you true, honest, and ethical at the very least.  If you're doing what you love, you'll make yourself happy.  But Extreme Leadership is not only about you; it's about your impact on others.  'Who love wht you do' doesn't mean that you find people who love you and then serve them; it means it's your responsibility to give everyone you serve something to love about you and what you're doing.

The most recent book I'm into, made into a cd set as well as a DVD, is called "The Secret." This book is by Rhonda Byrne.  My parents got me the DVD for Christmas.  I watched it and loved it.  I wrongly announced that I got the concept that they were trying to get across, and that I didn't need to watch the DVD again.  I put it in for the second time and watched it with my husband James, and as I watched it again I understood it even more and saw things I had missed the first time.  I'm now hooked on the book and the secret behind it.  I own the 4 CD set so I can listen to it in the car, as well as the actual book, both can be found at Barnes and Noble.  This is not a business book per se, but it is a life book.  It can transform your relationships, your life, your business, anything.  The "secret" they reveal is...The Law of Attraction.  I can tell you that this really works.  I don't belive that things happen by chance or luck or coincidence.  Everything happens for a reason and you can draw the blueprints for your own fantastic life.  Check out this amazing book and find out for yourself, the worst that can happen is you gain a positive outlook on life!

Hope you enjoy some of the things I've shared.  I'm always excited to learn and apply new things either in my business, or my life in general.
